They tried desperately to get him out of the position he was wedged in. John eventually died on the evening of November 25, 2009, stuck upside down, in the narrow passage from heart failure after a huge rescue effort by over 100 volunteers. Jones would be trapped in a space 18 inches by 10 inches. SALT LAKE CITY Its been a long five years since John Jones got stuck and died in Utahs Nutty Putty Cave, which was then sealed up and became his final resting place. There at Nutty Putty Jones was trapped for over a day. Nutty Putty cave near Salt Lake City, Utah is located in Stansbury Park. It was to be a fatal crawl in the deepest part of the cave and one that led to one of the most shocking and disturbing deaths imaginable. John Edward Jones trapped in Nutty Putty Cave is dead. When they got into Nutty Putty, John made the unfortunate decision to split up and explore an un-mapped route within the cave system. The cave is west of Utah Lake and about 55 miles from Salt Lake City. So John and Josh and several friends headed to Nutty Putty Cave at around 8 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

They were picked up by Josh, who told John that the Nutty Putty Cave had been re-opened for six months, after a long closure due to safety and erosion concerns. John, 26, his wife Emily, and daughter Lizzie arrived in Utah to see family over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2009 at their parents’ Stansbury Park home. The recreational pastime of exploring wild cave systems is known as spelunking in the United States and Canada and potholing or just caving elsewhere in the world. The interior of Nutty Putty Cave, where Jones was trapped head-down at a 70-degree angle, was re-created in a warehouse in West Valley City. Other caves were used for climbing shots. John Edward Jones, 26, of Stansbury Park was stuck in the Nutty Putty Cave, which sits west of Utah Lake near Cedar Valley, according to the sheriffs office of Utah County. When John Edward Jones was a kid, he often explored cave systems with his father, Leon, and his brother, Josh, in Utah. The scenes of the rescue workers base camp were shot around Nutty Putty Cave, which was sealed after the tragedy with Jones body still inside.
